‘save our pool’ campaign

govanhill baths

Govanhill Baths Community Trust was born out of one of Scotland’s most iconic grassroots campaigns.

In 2001, when the local council announced plans to close Govanhill Baths, local residents occupied the building in a determined protest that lasted over 140 days.

This bold act of community resistance sparked a 25-year campaign to save and reopen the Baths — not just as a swimming pool, but as a community-led health and wellbeing centre. That same spirit of collective action and creativity continues to define our work today.

In our local area of Govanhill, food and drink packaging and broken plastic products are often found littered on our streets.

we wanted to redefine this plastic waste, and creatively re-imagine it as a valuable resource, creating something with beauty and purpose.

we’ve spent several years in our studio refining techniques for transforming post-consumer HDPE (2) and PP (5) plastics into useful products with support from local volunteers.

This limited edition run of chairs builds on years of innovation that have seen waste plastic reborn as benches, carabiners, and 1m x 1m sheets.

Each chair is meticulously produced, from sourcing and sorting to melting, shaping, and finishing, resulting in functional chairs that embodies sustainability, exceptional craftsmanship, and the belief that even the most overlooked materials can be elevated into something extraordinary.

Each chair helps bring us one step closer to reopening our pool as a wellbeing centre.
